W. Stewart Futch, MD, AGAFDr. Futch's road to Goldsboro began in the third grade, when he was named "Most Likely To Do Something In Science or Medicine". For that, he was awarded a microscope and dissection kit. And his medical career was born.
Today, as a member of Wayne Health Medical Clinic, he will use some of our area's most advanced medical techniques and technologies to help patients suffering from a wide variety of digestive issues including: acid reflux (GERD), ulcers, hepatitis, cirrhosis, Crohn's disease, colitis and several kinds of digestive cancers.
Dr. Futch uses the latest treatment techniques and most advanced technologies to provide the highest possible level of care. Initially specializing in medical research during college, he still aggressively pursues the newest medical knowledge and expertise to help his patients. He even worked for a time as director of a practice's clinical research department. This experience enabled him to connect his patients with emerging pharmaceuticals.
The son of a career nurse, Dr. Futch earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Richmond and his master's degree in microbiology and immunology from the Medical College of Virginia. He then earned his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he also performed his internship and residency.
Seeking additional expertise in gastroenterology, he returned to the Medical College of Virginia for fellowship training, earning the title of chief fellow in his final year.
He later completed an additional year of residency training that gave him a much deeper mastery of advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
Dr. Futch is now a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a welcome addition to the Goldsboro medical community.
