Javier Pou, M.D.
Dr. Pou is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He achevied his undergraduate studies in Biology at Bridgewater College of Virginia and received his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine (LCME). He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at a Yale School of Medicine affiliated hospital (ACGME) for a total of 3 years. His fellowship training included 3 years of clinical gastroenterology and hepatology at the Department of Veteran Affairs and a major medical center in San Juan (ACGME). The training was comprised of special rotations and collaboration with the liver transplant center and GI program at the Medical College of Virginia and McGuire VA hospital.
Dr. Pou served as one of the first hospitalists at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg VA and was key in the jumpstart of the Gastroenterology program at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville VA. In addition to patient care, he has participated in clinical research, teaching, and has authored numerous abstracts in the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Pou is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Physician. Dr Pou is fluent in Spanish and French. Dr. Pou’s multifaceted background and familiarity with the Shenandoah Valley continue to shape his individualized approach to patient care.
