John C. Southerland, M.D.
Dr. Southerland has been a practicing gastroenterologist in Sarasota since August, 2002. He was raised in British Columbia, Canada and received his undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria. He subsequently completed medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where he graduated with First Class Honors. He then completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio where he was awarded Senior Resident of the Year. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Florida. He was awarded the 2005 Top 10 Physician Role Models of Respect by Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Southerland is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a diplomate of the subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology. He performs all gastroenterologic endoscopy procedures. He interprets esophageal manometry studies, pH and small bowel capsule endoscopy studies.
Dr. Southerland is married with 2 children - an 8 year old daughter and a 4 year old son. His wife is a pediatrician in Sarasota. He enjoys golf, travel and skiing.
Isaac Kalvaria, M.D.
Dr. Kalvaria has been a practicing gastroenterologist in Sarasota since March 2004. He graduated with Honors from the University of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) School of Medicine, and concurrently as Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians (England) and Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (London). He completed his internship at Harare Hospital, Salisbury (now Harare), before moving to Cape Town, South Africa for his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at the renowned Groote Schuur Hospital. As a Fellow he performed basic science research in liver disorders.
Dr. Kalvaria is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He is Board-certified in the subspecialty of Gastroenterology. He is past chairman of the Department of Medicine at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Immediate Past President of the Florida Gastroenterologic Society for 2008-9. Dr. Kalvaria's practice is limited to disorders of the digestive system. He performs all gastroenterologic endoscopic procedures, in addition to pH studies, esophageal and anal manometry and capsule endoscopy.
Dr. Kalvaria's wife Vivien is a published author, and their 3 children Hylton, Lauren and Romy have all graduated from college and are employed in various business fields. Dr. Kalvaria enjoys photography, cycling and travel.
