What are the symptoms of piles disease?

When most people have piles disease, they know it. Most people have no trouble identifying that there’s something going on “back there,” although some may be a little unclear on what exactly it is that’s going on. Well you’re in luck, as the list of piles disease symptoms is relatively short and each is fairly easy to identify.

Itching. The first indication that one may be experiencing piles disease is itching, namely in the anal region. Anal itching may be experienced at any time, but is most frequent after passing a stool. If you believe the anal itching to be piles disease-related, you might try some over the counter or home remedies available for hemorrhoids to take care of it.

Blood. Another common symptom of piles disease is blood, either appearing on the toilet paper after wiping or in the water or in the stool. When blood appears as a result of piles disease, the blood in the water or on the toilet paper will be bright red. This indicates that the blood hasn’t traveled far outside its normal pathways and is a good indication of piles disease somewhere in the lower anal cavity.  Bleeding can also be due to a more serious condition, so if this is an issue, you should check with your doctor in order to see if any other evaluation is needed, particularly if you are over 40 or if you have a family history of colon cancer.

Pain. Many people experiencing piles disease will experience a significant amount of pain. Because the tissue is inflamed and swollen, and given the relatively high number of nerves in the area, many people experience significant pain when they have piles disease.

Prolapse. Sometimes, when piles disease is fairly well developed, some people will experience prolapse, where tissue from inside the anal canal sticks outside of the rectum. This prolapsed tissue is caused by straining to move stools and is a sign of more advanced piles disease. Prolapse can be treated with hemorrhoidal banding or one of the other surgical procedures available for the treatment of piles.
