Rolando J. Leal, M.D.

Dr. LealA graduate of Villanova University, Dr. Leal attended medical school at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico, where he graduated in 1985. Dr. Leal did a transitional year in medicine from 1985-1986 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Staten Island, and the New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. From 1986 to 1989, he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. After his residency, he spent four years in California, completing two fellowships (hepatology 1989-1991; gastroenterology, 1991-1993) at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. During his hepatology fellowship, he also did rotational training in orthotopic liver transplantation at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). In 1993, he moved to Memphis, where he practiced gastroenterology and hepatology at Baptist Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital before joining the Gastroenterology Center of the MidSouth, now Gastro One, in 1997.

Dr. Leal has been board certified in internal medicine since 1993, and in gastroenterology since 1997.

Anca I. Pop, M.D.

Dr. PopBorn in Bucharest, Romania, Dr. Pop is a graduate of Saint Sava College and the Medical and Pharmaceutical University, both in Bucharest. She came to the United States in 1993 and completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Detroit, MI, in 1996.

She then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Detroit Medical Center, which she finished in 1999. She followed this with a second fellowship in hepatology and liver transplant at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis in 2000. She became the chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. During this time, she was also a clinical associate professor at East Tennessee State University.

She was certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1996 and in gastroenterology in 1999.

Robert S. Wooten, M.D.

Dr. WootenA graduate of Southern Methodist University, Dr. Wooten attended Tulane University School of Medicine. While in medical school, he was a research assistant in pharmacology at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. After medical school, Dr. Wooten completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and then completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic (in Rochester, MN) in 1987. Upon finishing his fellowship, he returned to his hometown of Memphis, where he joined Dr. McCloy as a partner at The Gastroenterology Center. Eight years later, he co-founded Gastroenterology Center of the MidSouth in 1996, now Gastro One.

He was certified in internal medicine in 1984 by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in gastroenterology in 1994.
