Carles R. Surles, Jr, MD, M.P.H.

Dr. Surles is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he also attended medical school. He finished in 1996 and, while in medical school, earned his Master of Public Health in Health Policy Administration. After medical school, he was an internal medicine resident at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, where he also served as chief resident in his last year.

In 2000, he began a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Hospitals, which he completed in 2003. Dr. Surles has worked for Special Olympics International, where he developed the Olympic Games rulebook, and was a teaching assistant in the Science Enrichment Program at Chapel Hill.

He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and gastroenterology in 2001 and 2003, respectively.
