Michael Safdi, MD, FACP, FACG
Dr. Michael Safdi performed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, where he was elected to the premedical honor society. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati Medical School, where he was elected to AOA Medical Honor Society in his third year. Dr. Safdi completed both his Residency in Internal Medicine and his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of California at San Diego and he spent ten months at Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation for further clinical training. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Master of the American College of Gastroenterology (MACG).
Dr. Safdi has a special interest in clinical research with respect to peptic ulcer disease, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer and colon polyps. He was one of the first private practitioners in the USA to do clinical pharmaceutical research in a totally private practice setting, and has published many articles on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. In 1996, Dr. Safdi received a Distinguished Leadership Award from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
He served on the Board of Trustees for the American College of Gastroenterology for 2 terms and currently sits on the Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Dr. Michael Safdi has also coauthored a series of guidelines from the ACG/ASGE Benchmarking work group for "Quality Assessment in Reporting Endoscopic Procedures."
During his 30 years in practice, he has guided his group's growth from 3 gastroenterologists in 1980 to 22 in 2009. He also built the first ambulatory endoscopy center in Ohio in 1990.
Manish M. Chokshi, MD
Dr. Chokshi graduated graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland and completed his Internship in General Surgery at the Case Western Reserve University Combined Surgical Program, which was based at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Metro Health Medical Center, Mt. Sinai and Veteran's Memorial. He then continued his training in Internal Medicine at Metro Health Medical Center. Dr. Chokshi performed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is Board Certified in Gastroenterology.
After three years of private practice experience, Dr. Chokshi joined our group. Dr. Chokshi is interested in all general gastroenterology issues and has extensive experience in liver disease including transplantation. He is an active member of many professional societies.
Karen Haberthier, MD
Dr. Haberthier is a Tau Beta Pi graduate of The Johns Hopkins University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. She then obtained her M.D. from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Boston University Medical Center. Her Gastroenterology fellowship was performed at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she also served as Chief GI Fellow. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
