Mahmoud B. Barrie, M.D.
Dr. Barrie is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton where he received degrees in both chemistry and microbiology. After receiving his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa, he completed his internship and residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and served as chief resident.
Dr. Barrie began his fellowship in research and clinical gastroenterology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and completed his clinical fellowship in gastroenterology at Emory University in Atlanta. In 2004, he was named an instructor in the Department of Gastroenterology at the Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) and was named an assistant professor in 2006.
Dr. Barrie’s research with other physicians has been published in the Journal of Immunology, Endoscopy and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. He is a member of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and has served on both the Emory Internal Review Board and the VAMC Peer Review committee. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology. In addition to general gastroenterology, Dr. Barrie has a special interest in hepatology, biliary disorders and esophageal motility.
Norman L. Elliott M.D.
Dr. Elliott is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and served as a pilot for the U.S. Air Force for five years. Following active duty, Dr. Elliott received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in l979, and completed both his internship and residency at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Elliott continued his medical training in gastroenterology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and was appointed an instructor in digestive disease.
Dr. Elliott has been a team physician for the Atlanta Braves since 1992, and holds the rank of Brigadier General in the Alabama Air National Guard. He also holds clinical assistant professorships in medicine at Emory University and Morehouse Medical School.
Dr. Elliott is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterologic Association, the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Medical Association of Atlanta, the Atlanta Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians. He has twice been named a "Top Doctor" in Atlanta Magazine’s annual listing of the best physicians in the metro area.
