Jarrod P. Kaufman, MD
Dr. Kaufman is a Board Certified General and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon in private practice in Central New Jersey. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Kaufman serves as the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) New Jersey State Chair for the Commission on Cancer. He additionally serves as the Chair of the Melanoma Workgroup of the NJ Governor's Task Force on Cancer Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment.
His primary focus, is on minimally invasive surgery, surgical oncology and minimally invasive vein procedures. Related to the former areas of focus he performs complex advanced laparoscopic procedures. He has been instrumental in introducing a wide range of minimally invasive and advanced procedures to the hospitals in which he has worked, and continues to advance surgical techniques and the use of new technologies and novel approaches to current problems in the fields of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
He derives great satisfaction when patients undergoing these minimally invasive procedures, have such a dramatic improvement in their postoperative recovery as compared to traditional open surgical techniques Dr. Kaufman is grateful to be able to offer patients a effective and minimally invasive surgical option which dramatically and positively changes their postoperative recovery
Areas of his interest include: Breast Surgery, Comprehensive care for skin cancer (Melanoma, Basal Cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma , Merkel Cell Carcinoma), Laparoscopic Herniorraphy (ventral, inguinal, umbilical and hiatal), Antireflux surgery including Laparoscopic and Incisionless repairs, Laparoscopic colo-rectal resections, Laparoscopic ultrasonography for oncologic staging and diagnosis as well as common bile duct imaging for Billiary disease.
He is also performing office based ultrasound procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of breast, thyroid, and venous disease including radiofrequency closure and endovenous laser ablation of varicose veins. Procedures are also offered for small vein disease like injection sclerotherapy and other modalities to treat spider veins and telangiectasias.
He has published numerous articles and he serves as a member of the editorial boards of peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Kaufman also presently serves as an active member on the SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) Technology committee.
Dr. Kaufman feels that it is crucial to be part of the bigger picture of medicine in the communities in which you practice and therefore has both previously and currently served on numerous hospital committees. He has most recently been the cancer liaison physician at both Community (CMC) and Kimball (KMC) Hospitals where he received the outstanding achievement award from the ACoS for his service in 2008. He was the youngest member ever to be named to the Foundation Board of Directors at KMC. He also served on the Foundation Board at CMC Medical Center. He also is a longstanding member on the Jersey Shore Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society. Dr. Kaufman also serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Society of General Surgeons (ASGS). Dr. Kaufman is one of the founding members of the Sentinel Lymph Node Workgroup Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and he actively participates in the workgroup functions, research and fundraising.
Michael J. Menack, MD
Dr. Menack, is a board certified, and highly experienced fellowship trained General/Laparoscopic Surgeon in a private group practice in Central New Jersey. He is primarily focused on minimally invasive surgery, surgical oncology and he performs complex advanced laparoscopic procedures. He has been instrumental in introducing a wide range of advanced minimally invasive procedures to the hospitals in which he has worked, and continues to "push the envelope" in terms of the use of new technologies and novel approaches to problems in the field of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
His greatest satisfaction occurs when patients undergoing these minimally invasive procedures, have such a dramatic improvement in their postoperative recovery as compared to traditional open surgical techniques.
Areas of interest include laparoscopic: hernias( ventral inguinal and hiatal), antireflux surgery including laparoscopic and incisionless repairs, complex abdominal wall reconstruction for recurrent incisional hernias, surgical oncology (breast, colon and rectal, stomach, melanoma, thyroid) , laparoscopic: colonic resection, adrenalectomy, splenectomy, Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS), laparoscopic ultrasonography for oncologic staging and diagnosis as well as common bile duct imaging for biliary disease. He is also performing office based ultrasound procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of breast (cancer and benign disease), thyroid, and venous disease including radiofrequency closure of varicose veins.
Dr. Menack is active in the American College of Surgeons as a member of the Ultrasound National Faculty and Imaging Group and an instructor for the American College of Surgeons Intraoperative Ultrasound Course. He has published peer reviewed articles on the use of laparoscopic ultrasound of the biliary tree and pancreas. He serves as a member of the editorial board of the peer reviewed journal Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy and Percutaneous Techniques.
Dr. Menack is a former Assistant Professor of Surgery and attending surgeon at Weill Medical College, Cornell University, and former Moses Site Director : Third Year Medical Student Clerkship, and attending surgeon at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He left academic surgery to devote his career to private practice in a community setting.
